Tensegrity Medicine/Holistic Integration

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

What is Tensegrity Medicine?

In simple terms, it's about understanding how different parts of your body and mind work together and finding ways to improve your overall function and health by addressing any imbalances or tension patterns.

Tensegrity medicine is a holistic approach to therapy that focuses on the body's structural integrity and balance. It combines principles from various fields, including connective tissue science, neuroscience, and trauma-informed care. The goal is to address the whole person, considering their physical, emotional, and perceptual history, to create a customized treatment plan that promotes overall health and well-being.

“Tensegrity is “a fully integrated, dynamic and efficient principle of structural organization that extends from the smallest of molecules to the complete [body].”

- Graham Scarr, Author of Biotensegrity: The Structural Basis of Life

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLD) is a gentle, light-touch technique aimed at stimulating the lymphatic system to promote the movement of lymph fluid. This helps reduce swelling and supports the body's natural detoxification processes.

Benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage include:

  1. Reduce swelling: By promoting lymph fluid movement MLD helps reduce swelling.

  2. Detoxification: MLD supports the body’s natural detox processes by enhancing lymphatic flow, which can help remove toxins and waste products from tissues.

  3. Boosts Immune Function: By encouraging the flow of lymph, MLD can aid in the distribution of immune cells throughout the body potentially enhancing the immune response.

  4. Speeds recovery: After surgeries or injuries, MLD can help reduce swelling and bruising promoting faster healing.

The role of the Lymphatic System: “Lymphatic vessels have long been recognized to function in the transport of interstitial fluid from the tissue to the draining lymph node (LN) and back to the venous system via the thoracic duct. Lipid transport, protein transport, and antigen and immune cell transport” (Angeli & Lim 2023)

What to expect in a session

utilizing a number of innovative light touch manual techniques, based upon the latest science of the nervous and fascial system, in order to affect these tensional patterns which may be altering joint, muscle, ligament, tendon, or nerve functioning.

Throughout treatment, an emphasis is placed upon heightening the client’s awareness of holding patterns along with sensations which may arise. Often dialoguing prompts are initiated to help the client become aware of emotions, beliefs, and perceptions which may be driving these physiological adaptations. Finally, movement exploration is incorporated, both during and after sessions, as a means to integrate the body’s response, further promoting global change.

Tensegrity Massage

At the beginning of the session, biotensegrity muscle length testing will be done to test the quality of movement of a particular muscle to find the area of greatest restrictions. A variety of massage techniques will be utilized to release the areas of greatest restriction and to provide relief to areas of pain and immobility. Along with more common known such as Swedish massage I also will be

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLD)

Its a light touch therapy to move the build up of lymph fluid throughout the body. It is done systematically to drain into the circulatory system. It is effective with injury and post-op swelling.

MLD can increase the amount of fluid moving through the client’s lymphatic system. The fluid passes through the lymphatic system into the circulatory system and is urinated out, so the client may urinate more frequently after the massage. MLD is also very relaxing, so the client may feel the need to nap after the massage session and sleep soundly that night.
